Visit

We pride ourselves in our passion for education, which is why we place emphasis on presenting creative and informative exhibitions and fun public programmes for all ages.

Explore the rich history of Ashburton District through our main exhibition space which features the best of our collection, as well as interactive displays and video screens.

Our temporary exhibitions change often and can include up to four additional spaces including our dedicated Learning Centre.

THE ASHBURTON MUSEUM DISPLAYS EXHIBITIONS AND RUNS ACTIVITY PROGRAMMES FOR ALL AGES

Our team works hard to ensure that kids always have something to do at Ashburton Museum. We always have constantly changing themed activities and heritage crafts on offer, discovery trails, holiday programmes and special event for adults, school and community groups and children.

Previous hands on activities have included the Tekau Project beanie-making, peg dolls, and custom designed radios for a local competition.

In the Museum Adventurers club children earn stamps and collector badges for completing activities, which many Ashburton kids wear with pride!

These are just a few examples of the entertainment opportunities available to children at Ashburton Museum.

HOLIDAY PROGRAMMES AND MUSEUM ADVENTURERS

Ashburton Museum boasts an always expanding range of holiday programmes, and offers new activities for every temporary exhibition.

We work closely with local schools and educators to develop education programmes that kids can’t get enough of.

Museum Adventurers is our ongoing programme for kids which encompasses every activity and trail that we do! When your child signs up, they are given a lanyard with a passport, and as they visit our exhibitions and take part in our activities, they can collect fun badges and upgrade their passport to higher ranks.
