Newspaper

Ashburton Museum holds newspapers dating back to the 1870s on microfilm, with some physical copies also available.

With staff assistance, you may browse our microfilm newspaper collection in our research room, which includes editions of three of Ashburton’s oldest discontinued newspapers, the Evening Echo, the Ashburton Herald, and the Ashburton Mail. The majority of our microfilm are issues of the Ashburton Guardian.

OUR MICROFILM COLLECTION DATES BACK TO THE EARLIEST DAYS OF JOURNALISM IN THE DISTRICT.

Browse the Ashburton Guardian online through Papers Past, which you can find here.

The Ashburton Library also houses a comprehensive collection of microfilm. Ashburton Guardian indexes can be searched here

We also hold various issues of publications in our archives, which can be retrieved by request by our archival team.
