Two O’Clock Tours | Mana Māna, Kim Ireland

September 15 | 2:00 pm - 2:30 pm

Explore the importance of the gourd in te ao Māori through Kim Ireland’s ceramic forms at our next Two O’Clock Tour!

In her new series of work, Kim Ireland utilises uku (clay) to produce a variety of forms that refer back to the natural shapes of the gourd in growth. This myriad of ceramics provide an analogy for whakapapa in the gourd as a container of knowledge passed down through generations, and a representation of personhood when considering these objects as a whānau (family) group.

Come along at 2pm on Sunday 15 September to hear our lovely Programmes Coordinator Bobbie speak about Mana Māna, including the context surrounding the ceramic gourds and how Kim references mana wāhine atua (powerful women deities).
