Through the Guardian Lens | Talk with Daryl Holden

June 23 | 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join us for a special talk with Daryl Holden, the managing editor and co-owner of the Ashburton Guardian, to celebrate our new exhibition Caught in the Moment: Guardian photographs of 1974.

Daryl will explore the rich history and significant role of the Guardian newspaper over its 145 years in the district. This talk will focus on the impact the Guardian has made on the district, why it is so much more than just a newspaper and why it’s important to the future democracy and vibrancy of Ashburton.

Daryl has enjoyed a celebrated career in broadcasting and print media, corporate communications and marketing for over 30 years. He’s edited more than a dozen papers, has won multiple national journalism awards, including being the recipient of a scholarship that saw him seconded to The Times, of London. He has also worked in the agri-business field in senior commercial management and sales roles for national corporate organisations, fertiliser company Ballance Agri-Nutrients and dairy herd animal testing company, Livestock Improvement Corporation. He has been in charge at the Guardian for over three years and the district is an area he knows well. His wife is from Ashburton, her parents still live in town as retired crop farmers and a brother and his family now run that farm. Outside of work, sport has played a big part in Daryl’s life as a competitor, coach and national board member, and he loves his new “daughter’’, a rehomed miniature schnauzer dog called Missy.
