This summer, we have free activities running every day! Drop in anytime between 10am and 4pm to get involved. Check out our list of activities below.
Paper Hand Wreath

Create, decorate & celebrate! Gather your family and make a DIY hand print wreath to celebrate 2024. Write on each hand someone or something you are grateful for this year.
Celebration Tree
15 December – 05 January
10AM – 4PM daily
Help us create a 3D community tree out of recycled materials to celebrate a variety of cultural holidays.
Suitcase Travel Tags

Taking inspiration from our exhibition Lost Luggage, design a suitcase tag so that your luggage will never get lost on your summer travels.
Jar of Emotions Poster
15 December – 25 January

Fill your jar with different colours and materials that speak to each of your emotions to create a beautiful poster.
Santa Hunt
Late Night: 18 December, 5PM – 7PM

The Great Santa Hunt is back with a special late night on Wednesday 18 December! You can come back during opening hours and search for any you missed until 25 January.
Santa Hat Making

Make your own Santa hat in the lead up to Christmas!
DIY Paper Train

Learn how to make a DIY paper train using coloured paper, glue, and a marker pen! This simple and fun craft project is perfect for kids and adults.
Walk and Draw

Create a drawing while walking through our exhibition In View: Reflections of Whakatere Ashburton’s Unique Artistic Treasures. Learn about the Ashburton Art Gallery collection while creating a masterpiece of your own!
Te Reo Scavenger Hunt

Celebrate the month of Waitangi with our fun and educational Te Reo Māori Rapu Hamu (Scavenger Hunt)! Learn new words and about Te Tiriti as you search for items throughout our exhibitions.
Marae Making

Make your own marae as a fun and engaging way to learn about the Māori view of wellbeing – Te Whare Tapa Whā.
