School Holiday Activities | July 2025

June 28 - July 13

We have some great activities running throughout the school holidays for kids of all ages. Check them out below, or visit the Ashburton District Council What’s On page to see all of the school holiday events across our facilities!

Snowlace Wonders

28 June – 13 July | 10AM-4PM | Free | Drop in

Create a fun and colorful snowflake using cardboard, yarn, and basic weaving techniques. This activity helps kids develop fine motor skills, practice pattern-making, and explore creativity through a winter-themed craft!

Erebus Explorer: Landscape in a jar

30 June – 11 July | 10AM-4PM | $3 | Drop in

Inspired by artist Will Hadwen’s immersive canvases and his time in Antarctica, this activity invites children to learn about Mt Erebus and sculpt their own snowy volcano in a mock-snow globe.

Completed activity sheets for this activity will go into a draw for an icy adventure prize pack.

Twinkle with Mā Puaka

28 June – 05 July | 10AM-4PM | Free | Drop in

Design your very own star inspired by Matariki. Try to include something from one of our exhibitions in your star design – It could be a character, a special object, or even a fun pattern inspired by what you’ve seen.

Penguin Parade Collage

05 July – 13 July | 10AM-4PM | Free | Drop in

Inspired by our foyer wall artwork Negativland: Erebus by Will Hadwen, learn about Antarctic wildlife and create a fun, textured artwork using collage techniques.

Be a 1975 News Reporter

05 July – 13 July | 10AM-4PM | Free | Drop in

Explore life in Ashburton in 1975 through historical newspaper photographs and create a personal news story inspired by real moments from the past. This activity helps kids understand local history, practice creative writing, and express their ideas through drawing and storytelling.
