Opening | Michael Armstrong, Maire Le Lievre, & Enmeshed

May 10, 2025 | 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for the opening of three new exhibitions!

Timaru-based painter Michael Armstrong’s exhibition Paintings of Ruined Mythic Phantasies addresses themes that have preoccupied him throughout his career – social justice, politics, the environment and the misuse of power.

In Inventory, Marie Le Lievre’s singular paintings require the ground as a starting point – paint is poured onto the canvas and manipulated by hand in an intuitive process that allows the medium to take its own course. With a background in psychology, these works – painting, drawing, photography and collaborative film – become an explorative self-portrait of the artist.

In Enmeshed, artists Julia Holderness, Areez Katki, Erica van Zon, Ana Iti, and Claudia Kogachi each reframe narratives born from archives, films, popular culture and personal histories. Engaging with feminist practices, they critique the frameworks taken for granted as being ‘neutral’ by challenging prescribed structures of organising knowledge, and in doing so, show that how we organise and share knowledge is just as important as the knowledge itself.

Nau mai koutou katoa – all are welcome at this free event.
