This object-rich exhibition is drawn from our nationally significant collection.

It traces the history of the Ashburton region from nature, to taonga, to today. The story of New Zealand’s diverse cultural heritage is woven throughout.

Interactive modules provide an engaging way to discover the history, heritage and natural features of the region. Opportunities to explore history through creative activities and hands on making are always available.

Learn about daily life in Mid-Canterbury, and how it has both changed and stayed the same. Once in the exhibit, you will feel as though you have set foot into the district’s fascinating past, as the story of the Ashburton district unfolds before your eyes.
