Do you live rurally? The ADC team and local community providers will be running an outreach programme this school holiday! We will be running our Making Waka/Boats activity.

District Card Competition

We are getting festive with our annual District Card competition. This year we are taking inspiration from Clever Crustaceans.

The competition is open to all children between 5-13 years and will be judged by Ashburton’s Mayor Neil Brown. The winning design will be the official holiday card of the Ashburton District Council, while the People’s Choice winner will be featured as the AAGM card. Both winners will receive 25 copies of their card to send to loved ones.

Finished entries will be on display at the Art Gallery and Museum from 13 October. Entries must be delivered to the Gallery reception by 4pm on Sunday 13 October 2024.

Kidz Colour Hunt (with Resene Kidz Colour) 

Saturday 28 September – Sunday 13 October 2024 | All day | Free

In this scavenger hunt, roll a dice and discover each colour and symbol. Along the way you’ll need to keep your eyes open for 10 painted rocks with crustaceans on them. Once you have found all 10 rocks and finished the game, you’ll go in the draw to win our school holiday prize!

Clever Crustaceans Workshop

Learn more about the Clever Crustaceans in our new exhibition, from barnacles with superglue to slaters in the backyard, in this workshop with two carcinologists (crustacean experts) from NIWA.

From colouring in to building your own crustacean there’s lots to see and do at the Clever Crustaceans school holiday workshop.
